Lost River Cave is currently accepting reservations for the 2013 Junior Naturalist Program and it is expected to fill up quickly. Each of the 6 sessions can be purchased individually for $10, or all six can be purchased for $50 per student. This program fee includes identification guides, field tools, as well a journal for each student.
Lost River Cave’s Junior Naturalist program is designed for children ages 6-12 who will meet every other month to discover, investigate and enjoy fun adventures in the outdoors. They’ll be learning about the intricate wetland ecosystems and crawling through muddy cave passages to learn about Kentucky’s unique Karst environment. The nature center programs at Lost River Cave are constructed to give children the best possible hands-on experience in the outdoors.

March 2013
Lost River Valley is home to approximately 75 species of birds- 150 during migration! Examine the unique characteristics of birds such as their beaks and feeding habits. Learn how to go on a bird watch and gain identification skills.
May 2013
Get to know the trees and wildflowers and their use in the habitat. Investigate invasive plants and how they interfere with their environment.
July 2013
Check out what buzzes, creeps and slithers in the valley, prairie and wetland. Learn about the insects, reptiles and amphibian that call Lost River Cave’s park home.
September 2013
Why do we have seasons, what do the seasons mean to the environment? Learn about weather conditions in common weather events that can affect nature.
November 2013
Get down and dirty with a wild caving trip. Go into the cave to examine the rock, the ecosystem and geologic history of the cave and surrounding karst environment.
