Summer is near and it’s time to figure out how to keep the children of Bowling Green active, learning and having fun all at the same time. Capitol Arts Youth Theater is preparing for the ‘2011 Arts Summer Camp.’ If you have a child who wants to have fun and make friends for a lifetime, this may be the program for them.

For the youngest actors (Age 4-7) CAYT are offering four weeks of fun in their group called Broadway Babes.  They will learn about the very fundamentals that go into being in a play.  The youngest campers will work on skills like memorization, being aware of the space and the other people in it, but most importantly IMAGINATION!  At the end of each week there will be a showcase where campers will perform what they have been working on.  Some of the shows designed for this year’s group are:  Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Fractured Fairy Tales, Peter and the Wolf, and many more!

Schedule:

Week 1/Session 1:  June 6-June 10 from 9am to 12pm

Week 1/Session 2:  June 6-June 10 from 1pm to 4pm

Week 2/Session 1:  June 13-June 17 from 9am to 12pm

Week 4/Session 2:  June 27-July 1 from 1pm to 4pm

Cost per Session or # of Children:          1-$75          2-$120          3-$165          4-$200

Young Artist Troup (grades 2-7)

Week 1: June 6-June 10 (Mon. – Fri. 9am-4pm) “All About Auditioning”

This Session will concentrate on identifying and refining the basic skills asked for when first auditioning for a show.  This session will be a big help if they decide to audition for the summer musicals.  It will have no basis on casting, but it will give them the advantage of walking into the audition prepared and having gone through the process and given feedback at the end.

Week 2: June 13-June 17 (Mon. – Fri. 9am-4pm) “I Won’t Grow Up”

In the second week, the students will have the opportunity to work on scenes, songs, and other material written for their age range.  Instead of looking at parts normally played by adults, this session will focus on working within their age range.  Many shows have great parts that are played by children and young adults.  This session will give them an opportunity to explore those.

Week 3 and 4: June 20-July 1 (Mon. – Fri. 9am-4pm)   “Start to Finish: A Show of Our Own”

During the last two weeks the students will put together their own show with the guidance of our camp staff.  They will work on the sets, props, pull their own costumes, and generally have their input and ideas come together to create a show.  The show will include both the Young Artist Troupe and the Capitol Players.  They will begin by working separately on their own material, and then we will put it all together to create an entire show!

Cost per Session or # of Children          1-$100          2-$170           3-$240           4-$300

Capitol players (grades 8-12)

Week 1: June 6-June 10 (Mon. – Fri. 9am-4pm)  “All About Auditioning”

During the first Session the oldest actors will work on a monologue, song, and a variety of dance combinations, in other words skills needed to audition.  They will learn how to showcase their strengths and improve their weaknesses and at the end of the week they will showcase their audition “package”.  This session will be a big help if they decide to audition for the summer musicals.  It will have no basis on casting, but it will give them the advantage of walking into the audition prepared and having gone through the process and given feedback at the end.
