Farm Fresh But Already Fixed started just a few short months ago in October of 2014. Born out of a shared vision between Nathan and Michelle Howell of Hickory Lane Farm (formerly Need More Acres) and Emily Cothran, the goal for Farm Fresh was to make local food more accessible by offering an “already fixed” reheat and serve model for weekly customers. Chelsea Suleski joined the team to work with Emily in the kitchen and lend her creative spirit to the seasonal menus. Planning continued throughout the summer of 2014 and in the fall, Farm Fresh launched!

Farm Fresh operates as a twist on the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) model. Traditionally, CSA customers receive a basket of fresh produce, or a share of a certain farm’s harvest, in exchange for pre-payment. Farm Fresh follows a similar model, but instead of fresh produce customers receive a weekly share of prepared food: one entrée, 4 to 5 side items, and one snack or healthy dessert.

After picking up her first share, customer Mary Duke said, “Got my first share this past week. It was wonderful! Even the dishes I weren’t so excited about ended up being some of my new favorites. Who knew creamed Swiss chard could be so delicious!?! Keep up the good work, and I can’t wait to get another share in the future.”

All fruits, vegetables, dairy, cheese, and protein are sourced locally, with the majority coming from the Howell’s land at Hickory Lane Farm. Emily and Chelsea cook with vegetables that were harvested just hours before from adjacent fields. A few high quality grains, beans, and oils are sourced to complete the pantry and round out recipes. Most weeks’ shares are 90-95% local! Pickup occurs weekly at Community Farmers Market Bowling Green from 2-6pm.

Giving back to the community is a big part of Farm Fresh. Chelsea says, “Working with farmers and friends who are passionate about the work they do is so inspiring. I love being apart of work that allows families to have more time to sit at the table together over nourishing food.”

Spots are available for new members, and one-time pickup is available for those who are interested in giving it a try with no further commitment required. Visit the website for more details or like the Farm Fresh Facebook page to keep up with the latest menus. Pre-order is required.

Emily says, “Sharing our love of cooking is so rewarding, and knowing that the majority of every dollar spent with us stays in the community is so satisfying. We are grateful and humbled to be a part of Community Farmers Market.”

Email Emily at emilyrae.cothran@gmail.com for more information. Farm Fresh will also be setup at the CSA Fair at Community Farmers Market on Saturday, March 21st from 8-1pm. Stop by to ask questions and learn more.
