Rob Baas of Rob’s Grill has an Update on his Need More Acres CSA: “CSA Chronicles (Mid-Year Update).” A Great Read.

We just finished the 26th week of our CSA journey so we are halfway through the year, and it certainly has been a learning experience. I’ll keep the words brief here, because I’m still updating the CSA Chronicles page with pictures and recipe ideas each week and there are plenty of words and pictures there.

The bottom line is that we’ve made far fewer trips to the grocery store, we’re learning how to eat seasonly, and we’re learning to cook things we wouldn’t normally buy. I reckon that’s a good thing because they’re healthy things. And tasty things. I very much look forward to Tuesday farm store trips where I see what the week’s basket contains, and the boys enjoy the farm trips when they are able to join me (mostly because farms have neat things like chickens and tractors).

Our farmers are cool. This isn’t your normal CSA, and these aren’t just produce baskets. Each week we are getting protein, bread, and dairy products from various local suppliers in addition to the NMA produce. Some weeks have bonus items like soup, salad dressing, soap, or herbs and there’s always a different bulk food item like pasta, beans, rice, sugar, etc. We even got something called quinoa one time. It’s usually more food than we eat in a week, and it’s fun to share or trade extra stuff (eggplant) with friends and neighbors. [No offense, eggplant. People tell me you are delicious.]

So, here’s what half a year’s worth of food from the Need More Acres Full Farm CSA program looks like…
