Well, crud, the unsettled weather is coming for us this weekend. Gonna be a warm and probably windy Friday before stormy fun flows in this evening. Saturday will see some lingering showers and maybe a thunder banger or two. We’ll dry out a bit come Sunday and that should make for a nice end to the weekend. At least until more overnight clouds decide it’s time to roll in, causing unrest on Monday. [WXorNot & YouTube]
On Monday, the Bowling Green/Warren County Humane Society launched an online silent auction aimed at supporting shelter pets. There’s a trip to Disney World, Hawaiian vacation and more. It runs through Saturday at 7:00 P.M. local time. [Fur Ball]
If too little, too late were a story on a local television news station, this would be it. Frankfort is the problem. Do not trust politicians claiming to have done anything to help the foster care system in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. A push is underway to bring more community members into the foster care system as April marks Child Abuse Prevention Month. Nearly 9,000 children are in state custody across Kentucky. As those cases move through the court system, a group works behind the scenes to make sure each child is not overlooked. [WBKO]
Yep, it’s definitely turned into a scandal. In a response to a lawsuit brought by former Warren County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Mark Heyungs, the office is disputing Heyungs’ claims that his firing in February was not supported by substantial evidence. [BG Daily News]
Your governor apparently has no clue what’s going on or he’s intentionally proud to support antisemitic trolls. Mitch Barnhart’s job literally pays for itself. As in academic funds don’t wind up in his pocket. And Judge Gregory Van Tatenhove is likely the best pick to be the law dean. The head extremist opposing him, Ramsi Woodcock, is a notorious antisemite and Van Tatenhove wouldn’t agree to his bizarre-o Jew hate. But Andy Beshear is cosigning all this? He’s either clueless or proud to surround himself with the worst people, which he unfortunately seems to do when pandering to some groups. [Kentucky Lantern]
Cuando Robbie Dye, un estudiante de segundo año de artes visuales y español, hizo una conexión entre Afro-Latinos y Puerto Rico y sus tambores djembe, sabía que debían ser parte de su presentación. “In my perspective, Afro-Latino culture is heavily intertwined with music and all kinds of artistic forms,” said Dye. “But I think music is definitely one of the most popular and relatable things for a lot of people to be involved in as well.” [WKU Herald & More WKU Herald]
This is going to be a big deal for the Bowling Green area. A proposal to expand Mammoth Cave National Park is gaining traction in Congress, setting the stage for what supporters say could be a significant boost to conservation and the economy in South-Central Kentucky. [Herald-Leader]
Western Kentucky University graduate Emma Bunch, who graduated in December 2025 with a degree in mathematics, has been selected for the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, a highly competitive award that supports outstanding graduate students in science, technology, engineering and math fields, according to a university press release. “This fellowship is a dream come true, as I have wanted to conduct cancer therapeutics research since I was nine years old,” Bunch said. “I am so thankful not only for the financial security that comes with the fellowship but also to be able to pursue the exact work I am called to in my home state.” [WCLU]
Norton Children’s Hospital discussed the lasting impact of psychological child abuse. Odd not to mention all of the psychological abuse perpetrated by extremists in Frankfort against children. [WNKY]
At least Sazerac isn’t headquartered in a foreign land? Louisville-based Brown-Forman was reportedly approached by spirits company Sazerac amid talks of a possible merger. Sazerac is the parent company of Buffalo Trace bourbon, Fireball Cinnamon Whisky and BuzzBallz ready-to-drink cocktails. This comes nearly two weeks after Brown-Forman confirmed it was in talks to merge with Pernod Ricard. [WDRB]
Do you know anything about the air quality in Bowling Green? The latest report from the American Lung Association is probably going to be a bit eye-opening. Go check it out to see where we stand. Spoiler alert: particle pollution is seeing a worsening and concerning trend. But it’s still better than a lot of places. [State of the Air & More]
