Think Little CSA Week 31: Breaking Ground

When not working alongside the Howell family at Hickory Lane this past week, we’ve been breaking in the walk behind, testing our irrigation knowledge, and planting one hell of an herb garden: parsley, savory, basil (two kinds), chives, thyme, marjoram, oregano, sage, and rosemary. The week ahead won’t be much different as we’re breaking ground for yet another plot, this one dedicated to beans, both fresh and dried. Needless to say, we’ve already learned a lot about what not to do (leaving enough room to walk between rows, for one), but Jordan picked us up a pair of really big garden hats, so at least we’ll be shaded for the next round of mistakes. Really, we can’t wait to go at it again!

All of that said, it will still be several weeks until we harvest from our first herb planting. However, this week you’ll be getting: broccoli, kale, lettuce, kohlrabi, salad turnips & radishes, green onions, and strawberries from fellow CFM farmers at Cardwell Family Farms.

See you Tuesday,
Jackson & Jordan
