Think Little CSA’s Week 21: Over It

Really, over it. The last round of Winter weather (i.e. Snowpacolypse) was unexpectedly brutal. Fortunately, we came out on the other side without any loss (unless you count sleep), but not without a great deal of preparation and work. Some of our fellow farming friends were not so fortunate. Growing throughout the Winter has its own set of challenges and every farmer that undertakes those in order to provide her community with fresh food year-round is definitely commendable. After all, we do eat 365 days of the year.

Speaking of, over 500 broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage plants are in the ground, safe and warm under cover in the high-tunnel. Next week is forecasted to be perfect planting weather, so we’ll keep you up to date on what’s going down. We even placed a last minute seed order for fresh herbs (basil, chives, cilantro, parsley, savory, etc) throughout the Summer and Fall, even some dried herbs thought the Winter and Spring of next year. As for the share this week, you’ll be getting: red kale, spinach (really, it’s ready), brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, a Winter squash, an onion, garlic, and oranges from Pat & Marion Grove. Ask Jordan for the country-boy hash recipe, you’ll be glad you did.

See you Tuesday, Jackson, Jordan, & Avery Rolett

Ps. Remember, if you’re looking for beef, Dolan Farms may have what you need on Tuesday. All you have to do is ask.
