Recommendations for vitamins and herbal supplements seem to change at the drop of a hat. New studies are constantly coming out proving and disproving the benefits of taking different natural supplements. If you watch the news every day, it may seem like the supplement they say is good for you one day, is bad for you the next. However, one thing has not changed: if you are deficient in any of the essential vitamins or minerals, you may benefit from taking a multivitamin or a supplement.
One of the most important vitamin/mineral combinations for your health is calcium and vitamin D. Calcium helps build strong bones while vitamin D helps your body absorb the calcium. The recommended daily intake for an average adult is at least 600 units of Vitamin D and 1,000 to 1,200 mg of calcium per day. This is necessary to build strong bones. Studies have shown that most Americans are falling well below these recommendations, putting them at a higher risk for bone fractures and osteoporosis as they age. A minimum of thirty minutes of sunlight exposure per day is recommended to maintain healthy vitamin D levels. During winter months, that sun exposure may be harder to achieve, and your vitamin D levels may drop. Your doctor can test your vitamin D levels in your blood to tell you if you are deficient.
At CDS #10, we have a large supply of vitamins and herbal supplements sure to meet yourneeds, including Vitamin D and calcium. We have all the vitamins you are familiar with such as vitamin A, B12, E, and others. We also have some supplements you may not have heard of, like melatonin, which can help you sleep if you’re suffering from insomnia or jet lag, or biotin, which can help promote hair growth if you are deficient. Be sure to speak to your pharmacist before investing in any new supplements, because some have the potential to interact with other medications. Our pharmacy staff will be glad to assist you and answer any questions you may have.
