Warren County Public Library Hosts Silas House, Tomorrow!

The Warren County Public Library will host Kentucky author Silas House on Thursday, November 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Knicely Conference Center.  House will discuss his book, Same Sun Here, which is the 2013 winner of the Evelyn Thurman Young Readers Book Award.

The Evelyn Thurman award is given annually to a Kentucky author of children’s picture books or chapter books. The award will be presented to House on Friday, November 22 at Western Kentucky University.

Along with the Evelyn Thurman Young Readers Book Award, House is the recipient of many honors including:  the E. B. White Award, the Nautilus Award, Kentucky Novel of the Year, Appalachian Writer of the Year, the Lee Smith Award, Appalachian Book of the Year, the Chaffin Prize for Literature, the Award for Special Achievement from the Fellowship of Southern Writers, and The Parents’ Choice Award.

House is the author of five novels:  Clay’s QuiltA Parchment of Leaves , The Coal Tattoo, Eli the Good , Same Sun Here (co-authored with Neela Vaswani); three plays, The Hurting Part , Long Time Traveling, This Is My Heart For You ; and Something’s Rising , a creative nonfiction book about social protest co-authored with Jason Howard.  He has recently finished his novel Little Fire, which will be published in 2014.  He serves as the NEH Chair of Appalachian Literature at Berea College and is on the fiction faculty at Spalding University’s MFA in Creative Writing program.
