One of the great things about Kentucky Music Company is the great teachers they have for lessons. We will feature each one over the next few months. Today, Andrew Causey:
1) Tell me a little bit about yourself.
I’m a husband first. Married to my best friend and forever partner, Em Causey. I have the prettiest four year old daughter – Eden Calla – and the two dudeliest twin boys who will turn two on June 26th. After that, I’m the Sales Manager at Kentucky Music, and a vocalist – guitarist – keyboardist.
2) What Instrument Lessons Method Does You Use?
I teach goal-based lessons. It really depends on the level of the student when they get to me. If it’s a new student to music, I tend to teach using the Hal Leonard Method for guitar, and the Bastien Piano method for piano and keyboard instruction.
3) What Are Your Formal Qualifications?
I’m a graduate of WKU in Comm Studies, where I compete on the Speech and Debate (Forensics) team. I’m a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary School of Church Music – with an emphasis on voice and guitar.
4) What Is Your Practical Experience In Teaching your instrument?
As the Worship Pastor at Woodburn Baptist Church, I started a very successful Leadership Academy of Music with over 20 students. I’ve been teaching formally for over five years. I’ve taken vocal pedagogy classes, piano, and guitar classes through my schooling. I have a good understanding of music theory – from most perspectives.
5) Do You Publicly Perform?
I run the open mic night at Lost River Pizza Company (7pm – 10pm) and perform for parties, weddings, bars, and restaurants. I was also the Worship Pastor at Woodburn Baptist Church for 5 and 1/2 years.
6) What Kinds Of Music Does You Teach?
I teach beginner to advanced rhythm guitar, beginner lead guitar, beginner to intermediate keyboard, beginner to advanced voice lessons. I’ll teach pop, country, rock – and all things in between. I’m most popular for teaching worship leadership – vocals and instrument. With multiple years of preparing future worship leaders.
7) How Many Students Do You Have?
Currently I am full with students, but have an active waiting list for students.
8)What Equipment Does You Require?
I require a guitar, three-ring binder, and access to the internet – so that practices may be logged through MusicTeachersHelper.com
9) What is the one thing every student should walk in able to do?
Every student should walk in able to block off at least fifteen minutes per day for practice – every day of the week.
10) What is the one thing no student should ever do?
Students shouldn’t put short-term goals ahead of long-term goals. Sports will end when your knees give out… Dates come and go… You’ll be giving up a lifetime of music-making and creativeness if you put such short-term goals ahead of learning music. Never, ever give up on your instrument; be it guitar, keyboard, voice, harmonica, or spoons… Students never, ever stop learning.
