All of it exclusively from local farmers and artisans, and all in a fun, social atmosphere with your friends and neighbors. 100% Locally Grown 100% of the Time! Get over to the Market today from 7am-Noon!

As you have been perusing the isles of your grocery stores you have probably noticed that some fruits and veggies are coated with something that resembles yucky sticky gunk…aka,  wax.  Not so at SKY Farmers Market!  Because you are buying local produce that is personally grown and hand picked by the farmers, there really is no need to use this preservative. There is no 1500 mile journey from farm to table.  These waxes are used to reduce shrinkage from moisture loss, to inhibit the growth of mold and fungi and to enhance the appearance of the product.

Waxes can be removed to some extent by washing with water and to a great degree by the use of soap and water or a non-toxic, biodegradable fruit and veggie wash. Nothing except peeling removes 100% of all waxes. However, the nutrients within the peel will be lost as well.

Under US laws only the following items may be waxed… Apples, Avocados, Cucumbers, Eggplants, Grapefruit, Lemons, Limes, Melons, Oranges, Peaches, Pineapples, Plums, Parsnips, Peppers, Pumpkins, Rutabagas, Squash, Tomatoes, Sweet Potatoes, Passion Fruit, Turnips, and Zucchini.

This week at SKY Farmers Market we will be selling all non waxed foods including but not limited to…. black berries, raspberries, blueberries and strawberries too. Sweet corn will be making another apperance along with 5 different varieties of tomatoes. Green beans galore and huge assortment of bagged herbs. Potatoes, onions and carrots will be on hand. All of these ingredients make a delicious soup base…add a little home made chicken broth and you almost have a medical degree for those winter colds !  Cucumbers and peppers are ready to be canned if you like to store up for the winter or give jars of jelly or salsa  for Christmas. Celery beets and squash will also be in plentiful stock.

There will also be chicken, beef. pork and lamb if still have grilling to do in honor of Independence Day. Grass fed and finished really tastes so much better and is healthier for you too.
