The Alzheimer’s Association is inviting South Central Kentucky residents to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s. The walk will take place on September 22 at Preston Miller Park.Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the walk begins at 10.
The South Central Kentucky Walk to End Alzheimer’s is more than a walk. It is an experience for area residents to learn about Alzheimer’s disease and how to get involved with this critical cause; from advocacy opportunities, the latest in Alzheimer’s research and clinical trial enrollment to support programs and services. The walk will begin with a meaningful Promise Garden ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
In addition to the mile walk, participants in the 2012 Walk to End Alzheimer’s will enjoy entertainment from WUHU 107’s Brooke Summers, who will emcee the event, WKU Cheerleaders and WNKY’s Radar the weather dog. The Association encourages residents to start or join a fundraising team today at alz.org/walk. You can even register to walk as an individual. There is still plenty of time to make a difference!
Alzheimer’s disease is a growing epidemic and is now the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today’s estimated 5.4 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s.
“Last year 600 area residents united for the South Central Kentucky Walk to End Alzheimer’s, raising around $65,000 for Alzheimer’s care, support and research,” said South Central Kentucky Committee Chairman, Brad Cannon. “With an estimated 100,000 Kentucky families touched by Alzheimer’s disease there has never been a greater need for our community to join together in the fight against Alzheimer’s, and make the 2012 walk one to remember.”
