30th Annual Downtown Lights Up This Thursday and the Start of Fountain Square Market!

The full swing of the Christmas season is here and a tradition for Bowling Green is the ‘Downtown Lights Up’ event going for it’s 30th year in a row. This Thursday December 1st starting at 5:40 the Mayor will light up Fountain Square with splendid lights and music to kick off the Holiday season as well as Fountain Square Market will have it’s inaugural run.

There will be a number of things going on during the Christmas Market as well. Enjoy horse and carriage rides, hot beverages, handcrafted gifts and special Christmas items. Many of the Fountain Square businesses will have extended hours as well as being open on Sunday. Also, live music from the Barren River Trio on Saturday as well as singing groups from area churches and schools.

The fun starts at 5:00 at Fountain Square as US Bank is sponsoring 300 free carriage rides downtown. As well as at 5:30 the Holiday music and luminaries light up the sidewalks around Fountain Square. At 5:40 the Mayor will make opening comments and light up the square with the beautiful lights provided by the city and the Fountain Square Business Association. At 5:45 Fountain Square Market opens and Santa arrives on the fire truck! There will be prize drawings and refreshments throughout the night. It’ll be night your family will not want to miss.
