Recently we visited Lynn O’Keefe at The Gallery at 916 and she exposed us to new artist Justin Ankenbauer. That’s what The Gallery at 916 has been able to do that people seem to overlook in Bowling Green. A class act and top notch art gallery in a town our size is amazing. Although, the Gallery at 916 is as fine of an art gallery that you would find in Nashville, Louisville, Atlanta or Chicago.

Justin Ankenbauer’s pieces are very well thought out and shouldn’t be missed. Coming soon (as in the 28th of this month) is the work of Bill Guffey:

Autumn Oak

Kentucky Farm

Landscape with Oak and Cedar

Bill Guffey has taken another step forward this year as his plein air paintings are larger and more ambitious than ever. The scope of his work during 2011 has expanded and grown into a comprehensive view of his surroundings; whether in his local area in south central Kentucky, or in the majestic Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

With plein air works as large as 24 by 40 inches, the effort put forth by Guffey (b. 1964) is monumental for outdoor work. With his wide stance Gloucester style easel (the Take It Easel), the large paintings take shape in all types of weather.

While living in Breckenridge, Colorado during the spring of 2011 as Artist in Residence for the Breckenridge Arts District, Guffey painted in blowing snowstorms and wonderful high altitude sunshine. The frigid weather in the Kentucky winter of 2011 was also an experience to remember, as well as the stifling heat of summer.

Bill has had a multitude of interviews, here in the United States and Internationally. Some of the press outlets include ABC News, PBS Television, Christian Science Monitor, the Atlantic Magazine, BBC Radio, CBC Television, Reader’s Digest (Great Britain), British newspapers, The Telegraph, The Sun and the Daily Mail, Italian, French, Brazilian, Venezuelan and Canadian newspapers and television.

His works are collected by individuals and corporations around the world.

The Bill Guffey exhibit will start November 28th and run through January 7th, 2012. An open reception will be December 2nd from 5pm-8pm at The Gallery at 916. To keep up to date with The Gallery at 916, fan them on facebook!
