Buy Local Month 2017 - Buy Local Bowling Green

Buy Local Month 2017 is a shopping, arts and entertainment event from November 15th- December 15th. We wanted to give southern Kentucky the chance to take those local dollars during the gift giving season and keep them local (meaning with local merchants in southern Kentucky, Louisville and Middle Tennessee since we know traveling does take place for these shopping trips). The key is to find the non-chain stores and shop the small to medium businesses in our area. We are also during this month via Facebook and Twitter going to give HYPER-LOCAL giveaways with local artists and businesses.   • The Second Annual SoKY Ice Rink- Starts the 17th of November through December 16th. The 6,000 square foot ice rink accommodates 175 skaters and is located at SoKY Marketplace Pavilion (Corner of 6th and Center). Skate rental is included in the admission fee. Book your private party at the newly renovated Historic Taylor’s Chapel next door to the rink.

November, 15th Wednesday-

  • Morris Jewelry’s Annual Estate Jewelry Show  The annual Singer Estate Collection from New York arrives at Morris Jewelry! They travel the world procuring estate, vintage, and antique items. They are emptying Morris’ cases, then they fill them with their stunning items!. There will be pieces from the 1700’s on up to the 1980’s. They have celebrity pieces as well. 9am-7pm 408 E. Main St.

  • Gingerbread Homes for the Arts Festival- Gingerbread Homes for the Arts Festival in SkyPac Lobby. 10am 601 College St.
  • Bartering with Babes– Bartering with Babes is a day to celebrate all the beautiful women that work their butts off doing what they love, no matter how hard it may be sometimes. This is event dedicated to women small business owners, women entrepreneurs, women musicians, and just women in general.  The night starts at 4pm with many artists and crafters selling their unique, handmade goods. They’ve got Juniper & Jade, Wild Hope Co., and many more. Ingen Art Gallery & Studio will be set up doing special Sip-n-Paint classes. The A-Frame also have Jules with the Flowers teaching her awesome flower workshops.  We’ve got a great night of music that features many lovely ladies.   • 31st Annual Great Turkey 5K Run / 3K Walk– This annual family event includes a 3K Walk (7:30 am start) and 5K Run (8:30 am start) with Thanksgiving themed door prizes and awards, and it is the sole fundraiser for the Bowling Green Road Runners’ High School Athletics Program. 6:30am Kereiakes Park

  • Barren River Holiday Remembrance– The community is invited to the Hosparus Health of Barren River Holiday Remembrance Service to celebrate loved ones who have died within the past year. During the ceremony, Hosparus Health chaplain Brandon Cook will lead participants in a brief time of reflection. Guests who are grieving the loss of a family member or friend may arrive at 3 p.m. to make a keepsake photo ornament in memory of their loved one. During the service, guests will place their ornaments on a holiday tree. Light refreshments will be served.  The event is free and open to the public.   • Reindeer Encounter– Prancer, Santa, and Mrs. Claus are returning to Lost River Cave. Tickets are free and will be available online only. Tickets must be claimed online. Each registrant can claim up to 4 tickets. This is a free event for families in the community to get outside and make a holiday memory together. Claiming free tickets to this event with the intention of selling, raffling, or distributing for promotional purposes by a third party organization is prohibited without the consent of Lost River Cave.

  • Christmas Bash 2017: A Toys for Tots Event-United Pro Wrestling along with Ultimate Championship Wrestling presents “Christmas Bash 2017: A Toys for Tots Event.”Admission is $10 or $8 when you bring a new unwrapped toy for donation. 7pm 920 Morgantown Rd.
  • Christmas Workshop– Christmas Workshop is for parents and kids to come and make a Christmas ornament and Christmas Cards. The Christmas ornament this year will require a picture to be framed in a opening the size of 1.5 inches x 1.5 inches, so if you have a picture you would like to use for the ornament please bring it but make sure it will show in the size given above. You will cut the picture down to size the day of workshop (please don’t cut down before workshop). If you don’t bring a picture there will be other Christmas pictures to put in the frame ornament.
