It’s Time for Buy Local Month 2016!

Last year we started Buy Local Month. Not because we weren’t happy about Small Business Saturday but because we believe shopping local, being entertained locally and acting local shouldn’t be contained to one day after the big box stores had their sales. We wanted our community to be one that supported our local musicians, artists, musicians and children during this holiday season. We have started delivering our Holiday issue of our magazine and you can pick those up at partner locations. This is going to be a page you want to book mark as we have become a curator of all things local. Here are some of the events, sales and other things you may want to see this holiday season:

  • Good Now through December 2nd- $100 off any custom made suit of five custom made shirts at FHG. 
  • 15% off all Apparel and KY Crafted items in store the Month of December at The A-Frame!
  • It is happening beginning Saturday, December 3, 2016! EVERY Saturday (except Christmas Eve & New Year’s Eve) in December & January! Hot Yoga Bowling Green will begin “School House Rockin’ Kids Yoga Camp” at 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm and “Intro to Hot Yoga: Stretch, Shine and Feel Fine” at 2:30 pm to 3:30 pm.

  • 38th annual Trees of Christmas at the Eloise B. Houchens Center. The Trees of Christmas will be open each day November 25th through December 16th- Monday – Friday 10am-2pm Saturday- 10am-4pm Sunday- 1pm-4pm
  • Polar Express at the Historic Railpark and Train museum- The Polar Express Storytime’s will take place on November 28, 29, 30, December 1, 5, 6, 7, & 8 at 4:30, 5:00, 5:30, 6:15, 6:45 and 7:30 pm. The Polar Express is a free event, but all participants must have a ticket in order to board the train for the storytimes. RailPark members can call or visit, non-members may reserve tickets in person only by visiting RailPark in person at 401 Kentucky St., Bowling Green, KY 42101 or by calling 270-745-7317.
  • 24th Annual Jack Lunt Memorial Juried Art Exhibition at The Downing Museum- The Jack Lunt Memorial Juried Art Exhibition began in 1987 as a collaboration between southcentral Kentucky philanthropist, Jerry E. Baker and the Capital Arts Alliance. For twenty-two years, the show was exhibited in the Capital Arts Center Houchens Gallery and included a wide variety of pieces from artists throughout the region.

  • Affordable Christmas with The Hope House-Affordable Christmas empowers low-income families with the opportunity to purchase gifts at an affordable cost. They collect brand new toys or monetary donations used to purchase gifts which we then price at 1/10th of the original retail value.

  • 2nd Annual Gingerbread Home For The Arts at SKYPAC– Bowling Green is gearing up for our 2nd annual Gingerbread Homes for the Arts fundraising event centered around the time-honored holiday tradition of making gingerbread houses. All proceeds from the Gingerbread Homes for the Arts benefit SKyPAC’s arts education outreach programs. The three-day Gingerbread Homes for the Arts extravaganza will begin on Thursday, November 17, 2016 with a full day dedicated to 3rd -5th grade students from regional schools. Students will have the opportunity to decorate gingerbread house cookies, guided by the Culinary Arts Student Chefs from Southcentral Kentucky Community & Technical College, tour the Gingerbread Home contest entries, and experience a special Main Stage presentation by Alaska’s Fiddling Poet, Ken Waldman.
