We sat down with Kim Sulkowski of Indulgence Gluten Free at Beech Bend Farmers Market. We got to know her and her business a little better. From her childhood influences to her thoughts on local business collaboration, learn more about the woman behind Indulgence Gluten Free.

1. Tell us a little about you. Where are you from, what are your hobbies and where did you start your career that led to the business? What is your earliest memory of your work, what got you interested in it?
My name is Kim Sutkowski. I’m originally from Upstate NY and have enjoyed baking since I was a little girl. I have been in the food industry since I was 17 both in sales and preparation. My passion has always been desserts and I’ve worked in multiple bakeries throughout my career. My youngest son was diagnosed with Celiac disease (intolerant to gluten and wheat) in 2003, which necessitated my interest in gluten free baking as a means to feed my child. I soon realized that so many other people in my community not only had a need for gluten free baked goods, but many other allergens as well.
2. What is your favorite thing you sell?

Brownies are a favorite item, because both kids and adults love them.
3. Who are your influences in life and your work?
My Dad and my aunt. My dad was a great cook who never used a recipe, just a little bit of this and a  little bit of that. My aunt as well, because she was a strong independent woman.
4. If you had to choose a last meal, what would you eat?
An incredible vegetable lasagna with parmesan crusted salmon and tiramisu for dessert.
5. How important is local business collaboration to you?
It is vital to the success of the community and small business. In my profession, it makes for the freshest  ingredients and I have confidence in their quality.
6. What event in Bowling Green (Farmers Market) are you involved with?
United Way and its member charities.
7. What do you see for the future of your business in Bowling Green and serving South Central Kentucky?
I’ve only been in business since March 2015. I want to continue meeting the individual needs of my   clients, and giving them food options that they haven’t had before. I don’t want them to feel deprived.
8. What other locally owned businesses in town do you enjoy shopping, eating or patronizing?
Griff’s Deli, Home Café, vendors at BBFM, Stakz, artists in Pushin Studio, Country Breeze Market.
