We’re getting to know the Owners, Managers and Artisans of some of our great partners. Today we speak with Jim Sears of Southern Kentucky Granite Company:

1. Tell us a little about you as a person. Where are you from, what are your hobbies and where did you start your career that led to starting Southern Kentucky Granite?

I have lived in Bowling Green, Evansville, In., Asheville, NC and Orlando, Florida. I like to travel, have a large garden and read. I worked at the WKU Store for ten years. I also worked at Walt Disney World, a print shop, Wabash plastics, drove a truck and grew up working on a farm.
2. What is your earliest memory of your work, what got you interested in it?

My first job was a newspaper route.

3. What is your favorite thing you sale?

Happiness.

4. Who are your influences in life and your work?

My Mom and Dad.

5. If you had to choose a last meal, what would you eat (Just a fun question and doesn’t have to be local)?

My Mom’s fried chicken.

6. How important is local business collaboration to you?

Huge. I have been at SOKY Granite for about 4 months learning the ropes. I will now direct a lot more effort working and promoting local folks.

7. What event in Bowling Green (or Charity) are you involved with?

At the WKU Store, I was involved in better than a dozen events and charities. SOKY Granite is located next to the Humane Society. We’d love to start working with them in some capacity- start close to home.

8. What do you see for the future of your business in Bowling Green and serving South Central Kentucky?

As Bowling Green continues to grow, SOKY Granite is poised to really grow it’s consumer base. So many of our customers are folks that have recently moved to the area, it’s fun being an Ambassador for Bowling Green.

9. What other locally owned businesses in town do you enjoy shopping, eating or patronizing?

Home Cafe and Marketplace, Mellow Matt’s Music and More, Lost River Pizza, Bowling Green Pipe and Cigar, The WKU Store, Novo Dolce , Fatted Calf, SKY Farmers Market, Spencer’s Coffee, Candle Makers on the Square and Labold’s Antique and Salvage.
