We’re getting to know the Owners, Managers and Artisans of some of our great partners. Today we speak with Tracey Pace, Barber and Owner, of Classic Cuts and Shaves:
1. Tell us a little about you as a person. Where are you from, what are your hobbies and what prepared you for your career a Barber?
I was born in Hopkinsville and moved here at 6 years old. Been here since then. I enjoy reading, wood working and antiques. My background is I went to barber school which is 1500 hours. I went part-time to barber school for about 1 year while working as a dental assistant. I was a dental assistant for 25 years.
2. What is your earliest memory of your work, what got you interested in it?
My father and grandfather were barbers. I was experiencing ‘burn-out’ as a dental assistant. I wanted to do something I could call ‘my own.’ I went to barber school knowing I wanted my own shop, I was done working for others.
3. You recently moved downtown with the shop, what do you like about the move?
I absolutely love our downtown area. It’s just really neat, lots to do & see. I just love being part of it.
4. Who are your influences in life and your work?
I’d say my Mom & Grandmother. Both are very hard working ladies, always have a smile and never complaining. I try daily to be more like them. In work I guess my Dad. He passed away before he got to see me have my own shop. I hope he would have been proud of me.
5. If you had to choose a last meal, what would you eat?
Anything from ‘On The Bone.’ I just recently ate there, it is awesome food.
6. How important is local business collaboration to you?
Very important. We all need each other & can work off one another.
7. What event or charity are you involved with?
The main charity I to is our Animal Shelter. So many people don’t realize how much they do from local sponsors & donations. The city of Bowling Green only does so much.
8. You are artistic and have your own projects, tell us what inspires your other work?
I just recently started wine making & building projects with pallets. Most pallets just wind up in land fills. You can make some pretty cool stuff with them. I love making wines, a lot cheaper than buying (laughing).
9. What other locally owned businesses in town do you enjoy shopping, eating or patronizing?
I enjoy Labold & Sons, you never know what you’ll find. Also, as I mentioned before, ‘On The Bone.’
