Hilltopper Hysteria Set For Tonight!

Hilltopper Hysteria, marking the opening day of the WKU men’s and women’s basketball season, takes place on Friday, October 16 at E.A Diddle Arena and admission is free!  Festivities begin with the Lady Topper volleyball game against Denver at 7:00 p.m. followed by the debut of the 2009-10 Hilltopper and Lady Topper basketball teams.  The entire evening beginning with the volleyball match will be webcast via wkusports.com.

Hilltopper basketball fans can view a webcast of tonight’s Hilltopper Hysteria basketball opening practices and festivities by going to
wkusports.com and clicking on “Live On WKUSPORTS.TV” as you normally would for any webcast, and then clicking on “WKU Volleyball vs. Denver/Hilltopper Hysteria.”

The first 500 students to attend the volleyball match and Hilltopper Hysteria will receive a FREE t-shirt!  The evening includes autograph sessions from members of the men’s and women’s team, individual player and coach introductions, a live men’s and women’s scrimmage, dunk contest, pictures with Big Red, and performances by the Topperettes and Cheerleaders.

Numerous prizes will be distributed throughout the evening, but you must be present to win.  Prizes include the following:

FREE Pepsi for a Year: contest open to all Hilltopper Fans! Yes, a whole year! – 5 Lucky Fans will compete in a Dance Contest to win FREE Pepsi for a year!!

FREE iPod Nano: courtesy of Pepsi – Contest is “Crush a Crush” – 6 Lucky WKU Fans will have a chance to chug an Orange Crush and the one to do it the fastest wins an iPod Nano from Pepsi.

$500 in Bookstore Gift Cards: Raffle tickets will be given to all WKU Students entering the Volleyball match for a chance for two students to win $250 to the University Bookstore. The drawing will be held during Hilltopper Hysteria, but you must come to volleyball match in order to get your raffle ticket!

Prize Package: Lady Topper and 10 Lucky Fans will compete in a game of Knockout – One Lucky Fan will win a prize pack from the University Bookstore!

$100 Cash Crawl (open to WKU students only): from Housing and Residence Life.

The WKU men’s team returns five of its top six scorers from a year ago.  Picked to finish third in the Sun Belt’s East Division prior to the 2008-09 season, WKU captured the Sun Belt regular season and tournament titles and finished with a 25-9 record.  The Hilltoppers earned an NCAA Tournament bid and first round victory (76-72 over Illinois) for the second consecutive season and finished 34th in the nation in the final ESPN/USA Today Coaches poll.

The WKU Lady Toppers, playing with no seniors in 2008-09, finished second in the Sun Belt’s East Division.  Dominique Duck, the 2008 Sun Belt Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player, returns for her senior season after playing only nine games a year ago due to injury.
