With a day like today we need to look at a fine selection of beer from Flying Dog and some fantastic wines for tasting this Friday and Saturday at Greenwood Spirits Shoppe. Sure the Gonzo Imperial Porter is available for carry out but so is the 7.5% abv Wildeman Farmhouse IPA, 7.1% abv Snake Dog IPA, 5.5% abv Doggie Style Classic Pale Ale and lastly the 4.7% abv In-Heat Wheat Hefeweizen.

It’s time to enjoy some wine with the Greenwood Spirits Wine Tasting Friday and Saturday on Scottsville Rd. The 4 wines for Friday are (Descriptions from Wine Makers):

Rex Goliath Chardonnay/California- Rex Goliath Chardonnay is a true sun-kissed California Chardonnay with bold aromas of apple and pear, combined with the classic spices of Grandma’s apple pie. Tropical fruit, pineapple and melon flavors combine with well-integrated layers of crème brûlée and a smattering of vanilla. I’ve added a splash of aromatic white varietals to provide layers of delicate floral notes coupled with bright citrus character. Round fruit and vibrant acidity are harmoniously balanced with French oak. The oak used for our wines is a proprietary blend of French oak, with varying degrees of toasting. This gives the Rex Goliath oak profile a distinct flavor, like no other wine on the planet!

Rex Goliath Pinot Grigio/California-Our Pinot Grigio expresses abundant citrus and lemon-lime aromas with layers of fresh stone fruit, sprinkled with intense fl oral and lavender notes. Bright and racy acidity is beautifully balanced with fresh citrus, leading to a crisp, refreshing finish. Considered by most in the winemaking community as the most difficult of white wines to make well, Pinot Grigio grapes are a challenge to handle as well. With such close ties to its sibling Pinot Noir, Grigio defi es what a white wine should be. This is where the challenges come into play. The Pinot Grigio grapes actually contain anthocyanins (chemistry geeks’ term for color pigments), which make it very difficult to pull off the appearance of “white wine.” Careful handling and meticulous artisanal handling from our winemaking team makes this phenomenon achievable – and very drinkable.

Rex Goliath Merlot/California- Mouth-filling flavors of plums, cherries and wild red berries dominate from start to finish. Soft, supple and complex. Pretty and seductive with a decidedly spicy nose of black cherry, cassis and cedar. I really love this wine. There is a certain elegance that fits my vision of the perfect Merlot. Very ripe and round, almost like a Jolly Rancher candy.

Rex Goliath Free Range Red *NEW*/California- With big and juicy red fruit flavors, this wine is smooth and easy to share with your fellow red wine adventurer. Free Range Red is an adventure into the uncaged style that Rex Goliath Wines are known for.

Cupcake Sauvignon Blanc/Marlborough Valley of New Zealand- “It’s the long cool seasons in the South Island that allows our sauvignon blanc grapes to mature slowly, giving the wine levels of complexity and a vibrant zing. This Sauvignon Blanc is reminiscent of a lemon chiffon cupcake. It’s made up of integrated flavors of Meyer lemons, Key limes and a finish that awakens the appetite There are hints of grapefruit, gooseberry and citrus, and comes together with a long, creamy finish.”

Cupcake Pinot Grigio/California- “Our Pinot Grigio is full with a nose that shows hints of pineapple, pears and sweet lemons. The body is full and gives way to a creamy mid-palate, integrating tropical fruits with the vibrant zing of citrus fruits. It is reminiscent of a pineapple upside down cupcake.”

Cupcake Pinot Noir/California- “Our Pinot Noir has the aroma of cherries that carries through the palate with a touch of red currants and a hint of spice. It’s reminiscent of a cherry cupcake with currant coulis.”

Cupcake Moscato D’Asti/California- “Our Moscato is vibrant and expressive with floral notes that dominate with hints of peach and flavors of tropical fruits and lychee. It is a soft and luscious wine with just a hint of effervescence to tickle the palate and balance the sweetness. With bright fruit flavors and finesse, it’s reminiscent of a pineapple right-side up cupcake.”
